Costs (subject to change)

Here’s what you get for your scouting money. The annual fee to register a scout in Pack 809 is approximately $75 ($90 if late).  There is a 10% discount if you have more than one scout, and a 20% discount for second-year Webelos.  There are few opportunities in today’s world that offer the kind of impact Scouting can have on your son for as little as five dollars per month.

The registration fee covers the national registration, a Boy’s Life magazine subscription, and Pack dues.  Pack dues cover such items as awards, advancements, pins, belt loops, patches, trophies, and newsletters.  In addition, some events and outings are subsidized by the Pack general fund.

Some dens agree to collect den dues, which help distribute den expenses evenly among its members.  A customary amount for annual den dues is $30+.

None of the above costs include funds that support the Meridian District or Mt. Diablo Silverado Council.  This organization oversees the Scouting program in our area.  It provides our insurance, maintains the facilities we use such as camps, operates the Trading Post, provides leader training, and provides staff to handle all aspects of the Scouting program.  FOS (Friends of Scouting) is the council’s annual fund-raising campaign and the goal is to raise $150+ per family.

Pack 809 conducts pack fundraisers to support service projects and major expenditures like the Pinewood Derby. Aside from funding major events and activities, fundraisers provide our Scouts valuable opportunities to build salesmanship skills. For this reason we look for fundraisers that involve the Scouts as much as possible.

Pack 809 does not want any boy to feel excluded from our program because of family financial limitations.  Grants are available to cover registration costs.  Please contact the Cubmaster or another pack leader if you are interested in a grant, and be assured that the confidentiality is guaranteed.

Uniforms

Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos and Scout leaders all are expected to wear the official uniforms appropriate for their position at scouting events, unless otherwise directed.  Refer to your scout handbook for uniform details and patch placement.  Uniform items can be acquired from McCaulou's stores or the Boy Scout Shop at Mt. Diablo Silverado Council in Pleasant Hill.

The yellow or gray Pack 809 T-shirts are our casual or "Class 2" uniform and are especially encouraged for siblings and parents.  Scouts may wear this casual uniform at campouts, outings, and scout events where the official uniform could be damaged or soiled.  These products are available for sale at selected Pack meetings.

Let us suggest one last thing to you: Get Involved.  The more you put into scouting, the more value you get out.  It is an all-volunteer organization.  You’ll make it an even more special experience for your scout and provide motivation for him to get involved through your example.  Scouting provides a proven way for us to have a significant positive impact on our children and our neighbor’s children.  Don’t let the opportunity pass you by.
